About (English Version)

Dorota Henk

born in 1968 in southern Poland, from 1983 to 1988 attended the vocational higher school for tapestry art in the field of art weaving in Zakopane, Poland. There she learned aspects of tapestry, everything from the basics and draft about painting and technology to weaving and the completion of tapisseries. She mainly devoted herself to landscapes, portraits and abstract works, although she has remained loyal to the abstract to this day. She has lived and worked in Vienna since 1998.

Her artistic career began in 2007 with abstract works, which were mainly created with a spatula. The artist’s choice of colors was already strong at the time. Her first exhibition took place in the Polish consulate in Vienna, followed by other individual and group exhibitions in Austria and abroad as well as publications in newspapers, specialist journals and specialist books.
Dorota Henk was inspired by artists such as Gustav Klimt, Alfons Mucha and Claude Monet, with golden elements playing an important role in her works.

The use of various mixed techniques creates color explosions on the canvas in the autodidactic artist, which are both expressionistic and abstract. These works not only express her own emotions, but also transfer energy to the viewer. A special feature of her art is the connection of abstract painting with art weaving and adding golden accents in different forms. She has been devoting herself to this type of art intensively since 2010.

The combination of abstract painting and art weaving faces a variety of ways to combine colors, shapes and textures. The use of gold leaf on woven gives the work a touch of luxury and elegance. The uniqueness of the structure and depth in the works invites you to deal intensively with the details and to discover new perspectives. Each work as unique reflects the artist’s individual handwriting and asks the viewer to embark on an artistic journey.

Since 2014 she has been a member of the professional association of the visual artists in Austria in the Section Painting & Graphics and since 2017 also in the textile art section.
